I cruised to Alaska last June. Can's say enough about the beauty of Alaska, but I would not cruise again. We went to Juneau, Sitka and Ketchican. I loved Sitka the best! This thread would be a mile long if I told you all about it, but cruising is the easiest and probably the cheapest way to go, depending on where you live. After you cruise, you can get the feel for where you want to go back. We're planning on shipping our car across country and then driving up the Yukon and through Alaska. Also, going to do the train in Alaska, hopefully next year. Since I'm from FL, I have to plan these things about a year ahead of time. Get some travel brochures from the official Alaska sites and then you'll get some ideas. Good luck and just ask me if you have specific questions! 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I have to say it has been a few years but it was a cruise I will never forget! Yes it ws fun, but beyond that it was mind blowing and life changing for me. We also cruised Juneau and Sitka, but we also went through Skagway to get to the Yukon. Alaska is a land of raw wilderness and spirit. Cruising is an incredible way to experience the soul of Alaska, I promise you one day I will be a resident of Alaska! If you have the chance to go......GO!

I'm with you - I would move to Alaska in a heartbeat! Hubby wouldn't permit it though. I just may get as far as Washington state though and then I would be able to frequent Alaska as much as possible! Best of both worlds I'm hoping!

I will be going on a cruise this August and one of my shore excursions will be aboard the Aleutian Ballad. They converted the ship to accommodate tourists and now offer excursions. AWESOME! Hopefully Corky will be aboard! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

"Once you've visited Alaska - not all of you ever returns home. They say part of you stays here in spirit, enjoying the sights and nature. It's true!!"
Cruising is fun but you miss alot. My suggestion is rent a motorhome for a week and do you own tour. You already have your hotel room with you and you can see so much more and no restrictions. You can visit more places and have alot more fun. Wanna know more - contact me at moosenose3, I've lived in Alaska for 40 years, know where to go what to see and do and have fun here every summer!

When I was in the Navy I pulled into Kethikan one time. I would love to go back. I also pulled into Adak while I was in the reserves and flew back to the lower 48 from there. When I compare the two its like the diffrence between night and day, Adak sucked. Do you find this valuable?

I grew up in Alaska on a fishing boat, I hated it at the time but when I look back I was a very lucky girl. The cruise is nice but i would recomend going up on the Alaska State Ferry and paying the $350 round trip and go to every town that you want to go to and be there for as long as you like, it kinda stinks being on a time schedule. Some times your only in a town for 4 hours and you really cant experience anything! Also I would go up in August! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I've had friends who went on Alaskan cruises. I think they are pretty reasonable in price when compared to more exotic locations. It's very beautiful, from what I hear. One of many places to visit in the future, should I ever get a vacation before I die. ;)

Took a cruise in 2004, stopped in Ketchikan, Skagway, Juneau,, Icy Strait Point and disembarked in Seward. Then 8 day land tour to Anchorage, Denali Natl. Park, and Fairbanks. Would I go back,....whatch how fast I can pack. Alaska is so incredibly beautiful, it literally takes your breath away.......Pink

I have already posted that I have cruised to Alaska, but have an update - I'm crusing AGAIN! Going on the Norweigan Star in June and so looking forward to it! I will repeat Juneau and Ketchikan, but the two new stops for me will be Skagway and Prince Rupert. I'll reply back on this thread in after our return in June and let you know how these towns compare to Sitka and Victoria. I will so miss Sitka as that was my favorite place, but am looking forward to seeing more of AK. I will also be in Seattle for 4 whole days which is a treat in itself! Do you find this valuable?

Hi we did a cruise same time frame as you only in 2007 on Celebrity, had a great time weather was great didnt rain at all. We are leaving at the end of August for alaska this time on Holland America, on one of our excruisions we are also doing the Aleutian Ballad should be fun. We have a cabin near Willow so we fish salmon every year from the streams and mostly halibut and salmon from our boat. We have found that there is plenty of time at the ports our least amount of time is seven hours, they also have land tours before and after the cruise. besides having a great time at the ports the ship is alot fun too!!!

I have always wanted to take the Alaska cruise but have never gotten round to it.I thought it was rather expensive though I have never priced it. I have seen pictures and film only of the beautiful unspoiled land and wildlife that one can only see there. I hope I get to go there some day . Do you find this valuable?

I've checked out the prices of the cruises, & they aren't that bad. Maybe it's the economy, but
it seems like it is less expensive than it used to be. The biggest cost is for airfare to Seattle.

WARNING I BRAG ABOUT ALASKA! This has been my home since 1968. I consider myself very lucky to be her and enjoy all that mother nature has to offer. Don't put it off any longer, come to Alaska while you can. Don't wait til yer old and can't get around as well. You'll find so much to do and not ever enough time to do it all. We have all the ammenities that you could ask for and in 41 years I've barely scratched the surface of Alaska. I love to fish, boat and sightsee as much if not more than anyone else. I'm into photography and really enjoy the wildlife here. My 2 favoritte places are McKinley Park and Katmai National Park. If you really want to know more feel free to contact me and ask me anything about Alaska. I'd be more than tickled to offer suggestions of where to go and what to see. No I don't work for a travel agency but I do work for a regional airline so I'm not doing this for anything other than to offer my fellow man or woman an insight of this great state. Come on up - we're waiting!! alaskprints@aol.com
